Petro-SIM 7.4 Changes to Refinery Reactors

Petro-SIM 7.4 further enhances our capabilities in the decarbonization space by introducing the isomerization reactor as a part of our renewable diesel process modelling. Together with the previously released HDO reactor, Petro-SIM 7.4 enables modelling 100% bio feed processes with the full suite of functionality included with our hydroprocessing reactors. Other key improvements and added capabilities to the Reactor Suite to keep up with the demands in the industry includes major technical improvements to our hydroprocessing reactors, delayed coker reactor, and naphtha reforming reactor.

HXX-SIM

Renewables Mode in DHTR-SIM - Isomerization Reactor

  • Addition of Isomerization Reactor
    • Isomerization setting for Renewables Mode to model reactor taking HDO reactor effluent and improving cold flow properties by converting paraffins to iso-paraffins
    • Extended range of recognized fatty acid/triglyceride range to C8-C24, including iso-paraffin components and properties and extended bio feed characterization to all extra/special feeds and allow to feed bio feed to beds other than first bed
    • Enhanced cloud, pour, and freeze point reporting and response to degree and location of branching
    • Introduced Renewables wizard

EBR-SIM

  • Technical improvements
    • Added Reactor Outlet T to Predict Target Options (in conjunction with previous options)
    • Ability to match EB pump flow target by iterating expanded bed height
    • Updated MOC calculation to take into account fresh catalyst addition rate
    • Added and updated results

Other Enhancements

  • Ability to export any reactor bed effluent to Petro-SIM flowsheet
  • Light olefins now recognized in liquid fresh feed, participating in kinetics (olefin saturation) and accounted for in hydrogen consumption and flash calculations
  • Capability of recognizing and flashing NH3 in hot pressure separators

DC-SIM

Product Distillation Improvements

  • Improved robustness of product distillation prediction
    • Refined methodology of determining recycle cut point
    • Redefined calibration factors for product stream distillations for better basis
    • Introduced a new method for determining FBP of effluent curve

REF-SIM

Octane Blending Revamp

  • Introduced a new composition-based octane blending method
  • Added reformate stream composition optimization to reconcile aromatic and paraffin isomers to be consistent with octane estimation from updated blending method

AROM-SIM
