Decarbonization
KBC is committed to supporting decarbonization initiatives. Petro-SIM 7.7 includes the following new features to help engineering teams move forward on their decarbonization journey
Bio-oil processing in HCR-SIM
Enabling of hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reactions within the Renewables mode option in HCR-SIM to support co-processing bio-oils in Hydrocrackers. The HCR-SIM will use the same Renewables license that enables processing bio-oils in Hydrotreaters.
Plug Flow Reactor (PFR)
to enable bespoke modelling of processes such as pyrolysis
- Introduced a kinetic tuning factor that adjusts the reaction rate equation in the basis environment
- Allow reaction constants & reaction stoichiometric coefficients to be modified in the PFR view
- Reactions tab GUI improvement
- Polymer Feed Handling in a mixed stream
Electrolysers
- Support for heating, cooling and jackets
- Support for different anode/cathode pressures and Anion Membrane Exchange (AEM) electrolysers
Other enhancements
- BT Utility - added new correlations for decarbonisation
- Ability to define a ‘biomass’ component feedstock from analysis data (for gasification). See Petro-SIM help for details under ‘Biomass’.
- Additional components added in Petro-SIM which are possible by-products from gasification: n-Pentadecylcyclopentane, Cellobiose, Levoglucosan, Pyrolytic lignin
